Gernot Rohr wants Super Eagles to camp in Abuja for AFCON 2019

Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr has told newsmen that he would want his team to have their final camping for this year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) at the Federal Capital Territory.

Rohr who was very serious about his request said that “it is very adequate and normal procedure as it was the usual practice by the big nations in football.

It will also give fans the opportunity to see the final lap of their team’s preparations for the Nations Cup”, the Eagles manager disclosed.

The Franco-German football tactician however doubted the readiness of Abuja to host the Eagles’ camping as a result of lack of adequate facility.

According to him, “we are looking now for our final camp site. We want a place that has good conditions for training. I like so much to do the camping in Abuja because it would hot also in Abuja compare with the same hot weather in Egypt host of the 2019 AFCON.

“But the problem is that we don’t have the infrastructure in Abuja right now. We don’t have any good pitch to train in Abuja now. But normally I like to start preparations for a major competitions like this in my own country. We are Nigerians. We have to start here. It is symbolic but we need good conditions.

“So if the Abuja Stadium is not fixed on time then we have to go in search of alternatives. It should either be in a Northern African Country or Southern Europe where it will easier to assemble our players that ply their football trade in Europe.

“But I and my assistants will sit with the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation to discuss on what are the possibilities and also the budget is another important thing to consider too.

“But I will like to have a good preparations based on professional sports arguments not any other thing. We had a very good camping in Austria prior to the Russia 2018 World Cup. We also have good hotel accommodation too. If we can get this it will help a lot in our ambition to do well in this year’s AFCON”, Rohr disclosed.
