Gernot Rohr: Why I will not invite new players for AFCON 2019

Super Eagles headcoach Gernot Rohr has an idea of the players that will make his team for AFCON 2019.

After watching his side beat Pharaohs of Egypt for the first time since 1990, satisfied Rohr told journalists during the post match that he already has a rough idea of players he will be taking to Egypt.

Rohr even made it clear that the door has been closed on inviting new players as it will be difficult for any new player to displace the ones he has already.

He confirmed that the squad list is 69% ready.

“No, there is no need calling up new players to the Super Eagles before the Nations Cup,” Rohr said in a post-match press briefing.

“I don’t think it will be possible for a new player to displace any of the ones we have now, so we are going to work with the current players.

“Yes, I said we already have 69% of the players that will go the Nations Cup.

“In the coming friendly matches, we will know. We still have some friendly games that will help us get ready for the AFCON.

“For now, yes the team is 69% ready.”
