Ghana defeat Nigeria to win African games women’s football gold

In an electrifying “Jollof Derby,” hosts Ghana emerged triumphant over Nigeria’s Falconets to secure the Gold medal at the 13th African Games at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Despite Loveth Edeh’s early strike in the 23rd minute when she took advantage of goalkeeping error to give Nigeria the lead, Ghana’s Black Princesses fought back resiliently. Tracy Twum’s equalizer in the 78th minute, after several missed opportunities, set the stage for a thrilling finale.

The decisive moment arrived in the 99th minute when Mukarama Abdullai sealed Ghana’s victory with a sensational goal from the edge of the box, leaving the Nigerian goalkeeper helpless and igniting jubilant celebrations among the home supporters.

With this hard-fought triumph, Ghana reclaimed the African Games Gold medal they last secured in 2015, marking a historic moment for the nation’s women’s football team.

The spirited performance of the Black Princesses was bolstered by the passionate support of the roaring crowd in Cape Coast, whose unwavering cheers propelled the home team to glory.

As Ghana savors their well-deserved victory, both nations will renew their rivalry on the football pitch.

Later today in Marrakesh, Morocco, the Black Stars will clash with the Super Eagles  of Nigeria in a friendly encounter, promising another intense battle for supremacy.

Kick-off time for the eagerly anticipated match is set for 5pm in Nigeria.
