Gift Orban bags hattrick as Gent win big vs Pogon Szczecin

Nigerian striker Gift Orban scored a hattrick to lift Gent past Pogon Szczecin 5-0 in a 2023/2024 UEFA Europa Conference League qualification match on Wednesday August 9.

The match at the Ghelamco Arena was the first leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League third qualifying round.

Orban opened the scoring in the 13th minute before getting his brace in the 35th minute to send Belgian club Gent 2-0 up.

Hugo Cuypers got his own brace to cap a domineering first half performance by Gent who went into the locker room at halftime 4-0 up vs Pogon Szczecin.

In the 64th minute, Gift Orban got his hattrick, the first of the season to cap a comprehensive 5-0 first leg victory for Gent over Pogon Szczecin ahead of the return leg in Poland.

Gift Orban and his Belgian side are looking to make their third consecutive appearance in the competition.

Following a 5-0 win, Gent will be feeling even more confident of their chances of qualification just like they did in the last round.

Hein Vanhaezebrouck tutored side wiped the floor with Slovakian side MSK Zilina in a thumping 10-3 aggregate win, scoring five goals in each leg.
