‘Give your best, unite 200 Million Nigerians, and win AFCON!'”- Lagos State Governor charges Super Eagles at send-off dinner

In a passionate plea, Lagos State Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu has urged the Super Eagles to deliver their best performance and bring pride to the nation at the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking at a dinner hosted for the team upon their return from a training camp in Abu Dhabi, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed unwavering support from himself and the 200 million Nigerians eagerly anticipating the team’s success at AFCON.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the significance of the Super Eagles as unifiers of the country, stating, “You are the country unifier; there is an excitement in the heart of over 200 million Nigerians.” He encouraged the team to believe in themselves and persevere in Côte d’Ivoire, emphasizing the collective effort required in a team sport.

Expressing his personal commitment, Governor Sanwo-Olu assured the Super Eagles of his presence in Abidjan for the games and reiterated the nation’s fervent wish for success in the tournament.

He underlined the importance of winning the AFCON, referring to it as the “best palliative.”

He added “We can’t say we want to do it again by mouth; you must give your best. Work as a team. It is not an individual sport; it is a team sport. Personally, I have committed myself I will be in Abidjan for the games and support the team.

“I want to assure you that our best wish is to do it for our country. Winning the AFCON will be the best palliative.”

The 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations is set to kick off in Cote d’Ivoire, with Nigeria facing Equatorial Guinea in their first match on Sunday, January 14.
