GOMBE UTD TOP NNL GROUP A1 LOG AFTER BEATING MALUMFASHI FC

Gombe United kicked off their 2017/2018 NNL season on a sound note after defeating debutants Malumfashi Fc 2-0 .

The week one fixture commenced at 4 o’clock in the evening at the Pantami Stadium with the hosts missing a glorious chance just two minute into the game.

Despite dictating the pace of the game it took the Savannah Scorpions fourty one minute to broke the jinx when Joseph Onoja smashed a shot few metres from the box which was denied by the bar, but Mustapha Ibrahim was at the right spot to picked a rebound and set Usman Musa who tabbed the ball passed goalkeeper Suleiman.

Sadiq Shuaibu’s 36 minute goal was adjuged as offside as the first stanza ended 1-0 in favour of the hosts.

The visitors came into the second half more rejuvenated as they pushed for an equaliser firing missiles from all angles but the combination of Ahmed Ibrahim, Emma Ambrose, Ibrahim Mohammed and Alhassan Yusuf at the back line was so solid to penetrate.

Coach Hassan Abubakar made some changes as Joseph Onoja made way for debuntant Louis Ntaji, Sani Suleiman for Mustapha Ibrahim who made immediate impact netting the second and winning goal in the 76 minute, his first touch in the game;Caleb Baba later replaced injured Ibrahim Mohammed.

Gombe United will travel to Kano next Saturday to honour their week two fixture against Giodano Fc.
