Great Hobbies For Sporty Guys That Aren’t Sports

Are you a guy who loves, lives, and breathes sports? Do you feel like, just maybe, you could also stand to broaden your horizons and explore a bit of life outside of sports? There’s nothing wrong with either of those things. Having a passion is what keeps life fun, and discovering new passions is what keeps it exciting. But what should you try? Here are a few hobbies that might make use of the skills and mindsets that we build in sport.

Strength training

If you’re already in pretty good shape from your sporting, then you might already know the mental benefits that come along with the obvious physical improvements of strength training. However, people who are new to the exercise might be surprised by just how motivating it can be to see yourself starting off relatively weak to the kind of weights you can more easily lift as you keep going, which really speaks to the sportsman’s sense of achievement.

Hiking

There’s a good chance that you want to do something fairly active even when you’re not sporting. However, not every physical pursuit has to be strictly competitive, either.

While getting out into nature and hiking does offer you the chance to overcome your own physical barriers, it also helps you experience beautiful parts of the outside world that you might never see otherwise. Standing at the top of a mountain will quite literally broaden your horizon.

Fishing

If you want a retreat into nature, but you actually want something a little less strenuous, then fishing might be the thing for you. For one, sporty guys tend to be great at developing enough extrinsic knowledge to understand the games they love, and with the types of equipment from Delta Net and Twine and the knowledge of fish needed for fishing, you can definitely flex your encyclopediac brain. Furthermore, there is something of a competitive side to fishing to be enjoyed, too.

Cooking

Is your body a temple? If so, how mindful are you of the offerings you leave in there? Learning to cook, especially with apps like Nom, can help you develop a repertoire of recipes that can make it a lot easier to stick to a relatively disciplined lifestyle. What’s more, cooking is one of the few arts of expression that ends up providing you with something with real, tangible benefits, so you can get creative and do some good for yourself at the same time.

Gaming

Perhaps, like most guys, you already enjoy a bit of casual gaming here and there. However, if you need a little downtime to relax after sporting, but you still want to scratch your competitive itch, you should try looking at some of the most competitive games currently running. From strategy games to fighting games to first-person shooters, there are a lot of games with a really active competitive scene to tick that box for you.

You don’t have to diminish your love of sports in order to better enjoy other hobbies you pick up in life. Most men are multifaceted, so embrace it and find yourself your next facet.
