Hat-trick hero Mahrez fires City into FA Cup final
Manchester City qualified for the Final of the FA Cup with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Sheffield United. Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez inspired the win with a hat-trick .
In the game on Saturday April 22, Sheffield United had the first sight of goal and should have taken the lead in the opening minutes after a glorious chance fell to Iliman Ndiaye but he failed to beat Stefan Ortega in the City goal.
Sheffield United put up a resolute defensive performance to keep the Citizens at bay until few minutes before the half-time break.
Bernardo Silva was hacked down in the box and Mahrez stepped up to open the score the penlalty for Pep Guardiola’s men.
In the 61st minute, Mahrez doubled the lead when he sauntered into the opposition area before finishing for 2-0. Five minutes later, the Algerian was again afforded space to work through at Wembley and complete his hat-trick.
With the scores beyond doubt, Pep Guardiola rang changes with the game against table-toppers Arsenal.
Manchester United will on Sunday April 23 face Brighton in the other semi-final.
