Haye targeting heavyweight belt, wants Klitschko rematch

David Haye already has his sights set on regaining the heavyweight title and has expressed his desire to take on Wladimir Klitschko for a second time.

On Tuesday, Haye announced he will face Mark de Mori in January as he makes his boxing comeback, having last fought against Dereck Chisora in July 2012.

Haye, a former WBA heavyweight champion following his defeat of Nikolai Valuev in 2009, then lost that belt to Klitschko in his penultimate fight in Hamburg in 2011.

Klitschko is building up to a bout with Tyson Fury in Dusseldorf on Saturday, but Haye is confident he will be successful enough in his comeback to secure a rematch with the Ukrainian.

“It feels good to be back, and looking forward to doing what I am famous for doing, which is knocking people out,” he told Omnisport.

“They call me the Hayemaker for a reason, because I throw plenty of them, and that’s basically why I’m back.

“I know I can throw those bombs and regain the heavyweight championship of the world.

“All guns blazing at him [De Mori] first, and once its finished I’m going to have a look back at the heavyweight landscape and make my next move.”

Asked about a potential clash with WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion Klitschko, Haye said: “I’d love it, obviously I have to earn the shot.

“I’d like the opportunity again, I think the first time around I didn’t get it right, I under-performed, and given a different set of circumstances, I can do a hell of a lot better.”
