Hearn reveals ´improved offer´ for Wilder to fight Joshua

Deontay Wilder’s team have received an “improved offer” to fight unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, Matchroom chairman Barry Hearn has said.

A bout between WBC champion Wilder and fellow unbeaten heavyweight Joshua has been mooted for some time as the Briton seeks to unify the division, yet talks over a Wembley date last month broke down as both sides blamed each other.

Joshua instead fought Alexander Povetkin, knocking him out in the seventh round to improve his record to 22-0, while Wilder has opted to take a fight with Tyson Fury in Los Angeles in December.

It has already been confirmed that Joshua will return to Wembley for his next fight on April 13 and a recent Twitter poll he posted from his account revealed most fans want to see him face Wilder.

Joshua is promoted by Matchroom and their chairman Hearn revealed on Wednesday that fresh terms had been passed on to Wilder’s representatives to try and finalise a fight between the two.

“So now a new improved offer has been made to Wilders camp let’s see if they will finally agree to a meeting to discuss or not,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Fans will find out if both sides really want this fight and I know AJ does. No obstacles from our end so just waiting for a response.”
