Heartland, MFM, Warri Wolves and Abia Warriors- Who will go down?

Giwa FC already out due to suspension and Ikorudu United also confirmed out of the Nigeria top flight football, the next two relegation places have been narrowed to Abia Warriors in 15th place with 45 points, Heartland of Owerri on 16th with 43 points, MFM FC, Lagos on 17th with 42 points and Warri Wolves on 18th place with 42 points.

Of the lot, only Heartland play away on the last day. The Naze Millionaires are guest to Plateau United. Abia Warriors host Shooting, MFM welcome continental chasing FC IfeanyiUbah and Warri Wolves engage relegated Ikorodu United in Warri.

Abia Warriors showed the mettle of Warriors in Port Harcourt on the last match day where they did themselves a world of good picking a point at Rivers. Now a draw on last match day will secure their stay in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) no matter what happens in the other venues.

Heartland, a team that has never been relegated since it was founded as Spartans FC in 1976 must win in Jos to make results in Agege and Warri irrelevant. Otherwise, they have to pray neither of Wolves and MFM wins.

Warri Wolves and MFM are on 42 points and must win to nurse any hope of survival. Then they will pray Heartland doesn’t win and Abia lose. Next, the goals difference becomes a factor for Wolves and MFM if both win, Heartland fail to win and Abia lose.

But the Heartland and Abia results must not happen for either of Wolves and MFM to survive. A ‘favourable’ result from any of the earlier duo could pave the way for one of the latter duo. But if both Heartland and Abia falter, the door of escape would open for Wolves and MFM.
