History book: Has the missing AFCON trophy been found in Egypt

On this day two years ago (4th September 2020) , the Egyptian Football Association announced the AFCON title was missing from it’s secretariat in Cairo Egypt .
EFA vice-president Ahmed Shobier made this stunning claim following a check on the North African countries trophy stock for a planned museum display .
During the search , it was discovered that the AFCON trophy won for keeps by The Pharoahs following it’s back to back victories from 2006-2010 was missing .
Egypt , the most successful country in AFCON history (7 title wins ) , went home with the trophy after conquering the continent in 2006 , 2008 and 2010 .
The trophy was kept at the Egypt Football Association secretariat in Cairo . Ten years later , the priced piece was no where to be found amongst the countries trophy collection .
Announcing the mysterious disappearance , EFA vice-president Ahmed Shobier said ” The EFA started looking for some trophies as they aim to put them in a notable museum inside the EFA,”
” However, the EFA was surprised to find that the AFCON trophy was lost and decided to open an investigation.
“They were informed by an employee inside the association that it was held by former Egypt captain Ahmed Hassan who refuted this claim. Nobody knows where the trophy is at the time being.” Shobier Concluded .
Efforts by the investigation panel set-up by the EFA has not yielded positive result. There has been no report or statement by the EFA to indicate the trophy has been found .
The missing trophy , a gold-plated replica of the original trophy was presented to Egypt for keeps in 2010 . Ghana and Cameroon are the other two countries who have been presented with the AFCON trophy for keeps .
In February 2022 , Ghana’s trophy was reported missing by the countries award winning journalist Saddick Adams a claim refuted by the countries Sports Ministry with a promise to parade same as part of events to mark it’s hosting of the 2023 All Africa Games .
Egypt has not won the African Cup of Nations title since the 2010 finals , falling short in the final in 2017 to Cameroon and most recently a penalty shootout loss to Senegal in the 2021 AFCON final .
