Hoffenheim striker Chinedu Ekene opts out of U20 World Cup with Flying Eagles

Highly-rated Hoffenheim striker Chinedu Ekene has opted out of the U20 World Cup-bound Flying Eagles.

The reason for the decision of Ekene, 19, not to be part of the Flying Eagles training camp in Germany has not been fully ascertained.

‘Chine’, who is on Nigeria’s provisional squad for the U20 World Cup in Poland, was at hometown Bayer Leverkusen for 12 years before he joined Hoffenheim U23s in the regional league last year.

The striker, whose father is Nigerian, has represented Germany at U15 and U17 levels.

In 2016, he won the Germany U17 championship with Bayer Leverkusen.
