Hussey not interested in international comeback

The evergreen Mike Hussey laughed off the possibility of making an international comeback after producing a timeless performance for the Sydney Thunder.

Hussey was 80 not out off 59 balls as the Thunder defeated local rivals the Sydney Sixers by 36 runs in Thursday’s Big Bash League opener.

The 40-year-old retired from cricket in January 2013, while he last appeared in an international Twenty20 three months earlier.

But Hussey’s man-of-the-match performance has led to the possibility of a comeback ahead of March’s World T20 in India, where he will work as a coaching consultant.

Hussey, however, played down the idea of working as a “playing consultant” on the sub-continent.

“No I wouldn’t have thought so,” Hussey said via cricket.com.au. “I’m happy to try and help out as much as I can off the field.

“We’ve got so much talent in this country and I’m excited to be working with the Australian team.

“It’s the one trophy we don’t have in the cabinet, so there’s a lot of motivation for the team.

“Everyone I talk to around Cricket Australia, it’s the one they really want. If I can help out in some small way, I’d be ecstatic.”
