“I Never Give Up” — Qinwen Zheng completes Incredible US Open Comeback

Qinwen Zheng pulled off one of the biggest comebacks of the US Open, fighting back from 0-5 down in the deciding set to beat Madison Keys 1-6, 7-6(3), 7-5 and reach the fourth round.

Zheng saved a match point before winning the final seven games of the match. The victory comes after the elbow surgery that disrupted her career and forced her to come through qualifying in New York.

“I have to say Madison played amazing. I don’t feel like she got up to 5-0 because I played so bad, I just think she played amazing,” Zheng said.

“I kept telling myself keep holding every single point. Never give up. Stay there. And somehow little by little it just happened.”

The Chinese star admitted the comeback felt different from anything she had produced before.

“This is the first time I turned it around from 0-5. Usually before it’s always 1-5 or 2-5. It was a very dramatic match for me. But we both showed really strong tennis.”

Zheng is now into the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time in more than a year.
