“I Stayed Calm When It Mattered” – Alcaraz on Beating Fonseca
Carlos Alcaraz opened his Miami Open 2026 campaign with a 6–3, 6–4 win over João Fonseca.
Fonseca pushed him. There were moments where the match could have turned, especially with break chances that could have tightened things up. But Alcaraz didn’t let it slip.
“I think I was really good in crucial moments from the beginning to the last ball.”
He knew the threat Fonseca brought and stayed locked in from start to finish.
“I know how good João is. That’s why I was really focused on every point, every shot.”
What made the difference was when it mattered most, Alcaraz stayed calm and executed.
“He had a lot of chances… so I’m just happy to stay calm, stay positive in those moments.”
Now we have a clean start for him.
