“I told Osimhen he is a fantastic player, but he must stop diving” – Mourinho
The Portuguese manager is open to working with Osimhen in the future
Jose Mourinho said Victor Osimhen is a fantastic player who needs to stop diving, reports SportsRation.
The Portuguese manager and his Roma side were beaten 2-1 at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium by Victor Osimhen’s Napoli.
Victor Osimhen scored a stunning goal just as he did in the first leg played at the Stade Olympico where his goal was the decider on the day.
On Sunday, Victor controlled a pass from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia with his chest, then with his knee before firing a superb volley into the net.
Roma, however, got back on level terms through Stephan El Shaarawy, but Giovanni Simeone scored the winner for Napoli as they take a 13-point gap lead atop the Serie A table after 20 games.
And Mourinho who watched his side beaten by the league leaders in a keen contest game had a few words to say to Victor Osimhen.
“He is of the same level as Drogba, but Didier didn’t dive,” replied Mourinho who was asked about Osimhen in comparison with a player he worked with at Chelsea, the legend Drogba.
Jose Mourinho who has been linked to free-spending Chelsea hinted that he could sign Victor Osimhen should he join a club capable of paying the fee required to sign him.
He also warned that Victor Osimhen must change his diving antics if he wants to be successful in England where they don’t tolerate diving.
“If Victor changes, then OK. I’d buy him if I was at a club with a lot of money. However, if he does go to England one day, he needs to change, because in Italy they put up with this sort of behaviour, whereas in the Premier League, they’d come down hard on him.”
Again, Mourinho revealed that he spoke with Osimhen after the match and that he scored a fantastic goal but he must stop diving.
“I told him that he scored a wonderful goal and needs to stop diving so much. His goal was fantastic, he did the same thing when we met earlier this season, so he’s a fantastic player. But he mustn’t dive.”
Victor Osimhen sits a top Serie A top scorers chart with 14 goals from 16 Serie A games, closely followed by his compatriot Ademola Lookman who has 12 league goals.
