Ibom Air-Backed Akwa United Arrive in Osun State for NNL Matchday 13 Clash

Nigeria National League Conference B leaders Akwa United FC have arrived in Osun State ahead of their Matchday 13 encounter against Osun United, after being airlifted by their sponsors, Ibom Air, from Uyo to Lagos.

The Promise Keepers touched down in Lagos on Thursday, March 5, 2026, before completing the final part of the journey to Osun by road as they prepare for the league fixture against Osun United on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Lanreleke Township Stadium, Ileigbo by 3pm.

Ibom Air, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most reliable airlines, has earned praise for its excellent service, punctuality and safety record. The airline has won the Best Airline in Nigeria award for four consecutive years up to 2025, as well as Best Airline of the Year for three straight years, while also expanding its fleet and strengthening its operations across the country.

In 2025, shortly before the start of the NNL season, Ibom Air signed a two-year sponsorship agreement with Akwa United FC. Part of the partnership allows the club to travel by air to distant venues for league matches, helping the team reduce the stress of long road trips during the campaign.

Akwa United travel to Osun in high spirits after a strong 2-0 victory over First Bank FC at the Uyo Township Stadium last weekend. The win extended their lead at the top of NNL Conference B and also completed a season double after their earlier 3-1 triumph in Lagos.

Speaking after the match, head coach Paul Offor praised his team’s progress adding that the team must treat the remaining fixtures like finals.

“From this point forward every game we play is a final for us. If we want to gain promotion we must ensure that at the end of every matchday we remain on top of the table.

Akwa United currently lead NNL Conference B with 25 points after 12 matches, four points clear at the top.

Meanwhile, Osun United, who sit eighth on the table with 14 points, are preparing for the encounter with confidence following their stunning 0-1 away victory over Abakiliki FC.

Club chairman Gbenga Ololade Oriowo praised his players after their recent away victory and urged them to maintain the same spirit.

“You guys really surprised everyone with that win in Abakaliki. The way you played was mind-blowing and I am proud of each and every one of you. But we are not comfortable with where we are and we must respond in every game.”

Vice chairman Ayo Odidi also emphasised the importance of the clash.

“We have a big game against Akwa United on Saturday and we must be totally focused. Let us build on the momentum and perform strongly in the second half of the season.”

Team captain Mojeed Abimbola assured the officials that the players would give their best as they prepare to face the league leaders in what promises to be a keenly contested encounter in Ileogbo.
