Ighalo backs ‘record-breaker’ Osimhen to do more

Former Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo is backing compatriot Victor Osimhen to break more records with his amazing footballing qualities.

Ighalo in a recent interview with Elegbete TV bared his mind on a number of topics, including a posible Nigeria Premier League return, his worst Super Eagles moments and how Nigerians almost buried him for miss at 2018 World Cup.

On record-breaker Osimhen whose brace in Nigeria’s 3-2 win over Sierra Leone in a 2023 AFCON qualifier took him past his 16-goal tally for the Super Eagles, Ighalo said he was praying for ‘Junior Brother’ Osimhen to break more records.

“Every morning I wake up, I pray that my son will be greater than me,” the former Al Hilal striker said.

“Osimhen is like a junior brother to me, so I always wish him the best. He has passed my tally, but I’m not bothered- I want him to even do more.

“He is still young at 24, but he has achieved a lot so far. He won the highest goal-scorer in Serie A and helped Napoli to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

“I just want him to continue with what he’s doing, and stay humble. Hopefully, one big team will come and pick him.” Ighalo remarked.

In the current transfer window, Osimhen’s future has been a hot topic with links to big clubs, PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester United, the latter Ighalo’s preferred destination for the 24-year old.

“I’m a Manchester United fan till death. I want him to go to Manchester United because he is a hungry player, and that is what the club needs,” Ighalo added.

“He is a fighter, he chases and bullies defenders and he is good in the air. And he is also young.

“He has his agent and he is also mature now, but I’d advise him to go to Manchester United because the cl8b needs him.

“Osimhen will succeed in England and the club will get the best out of him. I believe Manchester United will suit him.” he said.
