Ighalo: Premier League is the best in the world

Former Watford striker Odion Ighalo says the Premier League is undoubtedly the best football league in the world.

Ighalo joined Watford in 2014 from Granada and helped the Hornets secure instant promotion to the English top flight.

The 32-year-old had a remarkable Premier League debut season, scored 15 times and provided 3 assists.

Speaking during a Q&A session with the Inside the Hive program, Ighalo said:

“Everybody knows the Premier League is the best league in the world and the standard of the league is very high. The intensity, the coverage, the fans and the stadium, everything is top.

Ighalo thinks the English second-tier is similar to the Saudi league with the progress it is making, bringing in big names to boost the competitiveness.

“The [Saudi] league here is still growing, a lot of foreign players and managers are coming in, I would say it’s a good league and a tough league, but you can’t compare to the Premier League”, he added.

“I would say it’s Championship level. It’s very tough, physical and each team has foreign players playing and foreign coaches, a lot of tactical work and intelligent players in the league.”

The Nigerian international is enjoying life in the Saudi Professional League, having moved from Al-Shabab to Al-Hilal, he stays joint-top on the scorers chart with 14 goals.
