Ike Shorunmu worried about Super Eagles goalkeepers ahead of Ghana games

Ike Shorunmu has advised Austin Eguavoen and his technical crew to focus on the goalkeeping department ahead of World Cup qualifying games against Ghana.

Nigeria and their West African brothers go head-to-head on March 25th and 29th for the right to represent Africa at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The aggregate winner of the games will secure the ticket and Ike Shorunmu is confident Nigeria have the quality to get a good result but the goalkeeping department needs attention.

Nigeria were tipped by many to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations but a mistake from goalkeeper Maduka Okoye handed Tunisia the 1-0 win and a place in the quarterfinal.

And Ike Shorunmu wants coach Austin Eguavoen and his technical crew to sort out the department goalkeeping department.

“Even though I know that we have quality players that can get the job done against the Black Stars of Ghana, however, I am still worried that we don’t have so much confidence in the goalkeeping department,” said Shorunmu to Complete Sport.

“We must avoid the same error that cost Nigeria the game against Tunisia if the team must qualify for the World Cup in Qatar. The technical crew must focus on the goalkeeping department before the Ghana clash.”

While South-Africa-based Daniel Akpeyi and Francis Uzohois are yet to play a single club game since they returned from AFCON 2021, Maduka Okoye has been involved for his club.

In fact, Maduka Okoye has conceived six goals in three games.

The first leg will be played at the Cape Coast Stadium on March 25 with the reverse fixture scheduled for the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja on March 29th.
