Ikorodu City’s Waliu Ojetoye Confident of Super Eagles Future

Ikorodu City star Waliu Ojetoye is hopeful he will soon break into the Super Eagles and become a regular for the Nigerian national team.

The 20-year-old had an impressive season in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), where he stood out as one of the best left-backs. Ojetoye finished the campaign with nine assists – the highest for a defender in the league – and played a big role in helping Ikorodu City finish 4th, despite a poor start to the season.

His strong performances earned him a call-up to Nigeria’s CHAN Eagles and later to the Super Eagles squad for the 2025 Unity Cup. However, he didn’t get the chance to play during the tournament. Ojetoye was on the bench in the first match against Ghana but didn’t make the squad for the final against Jamaica.

Still, the young defender remains positive.

“I had a very nice experience with the Super Eagles. It was a different level of exposure for me,” Ojetoye told ACL Sports.

“I wasn’t disappointed that I didn’t play. I know my time will come. Things take time, and I don’t need to rush. When it’s my turn, I’ll be ready to give my best.”

Ojetoye is currently on holiday, but it might not be a long break, as there are rumours he could leave Ikorodu City soon. At just 21 years old, his future looks bright, and he could soon be making bigger moves in Nigerian football – or beyond.
