John Mikel Obi will be Super Eagles captain at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The former Chelsea star who has not played for the Super Eagles since the match against Argentina at the 2018 FIFA World Cup will lead the team in Egypt.
John Mikel Obi who is now the captain of Middlesbrough will also return as Super Eagles captain according to an NFF official.
“Mikel will return to the Eagles for the AFCON,” a top official informed SCORENIGERIA
“His experience and personality are crucial for the team who will hand out AFCON debuts to the bulk of the squad.
“He’s playing well and regularly at his club in England and he will be the Super Eagles captain in Egypt.”
Since Mikel took over as the captain of his promotion chasing Boro, they have won three games in a row having previously lost six games on the bounce before his appointment.
Mikel Obi who is a popular figure amongst the Eagles players will be expected to make similar impact on the team as they fight to win their 4th AFCON title.
