‘In the hands of God’ – Super Falcons skipper goes spiritual ahead of Japan clash
Super Falcons of Nigeria captain Rasheedat Ajibade has expressed faith that their qualification for the knockout stages of the Paris 2024 Olympics is in the hands of God. Despite a tough start with losses to Brazil and Spain, Ajibade remains hopeful.
The Nigerian team held the world champions Spain to a single goal for 85 minutes before conceding in their recent match. The Super Falcons, who have yet to secure a point from their two previous games, now face a must-win situation against Japan to advance.
Ajibade, who has been a standout player for the Super Falcons, took to social media to express her gratitude and optimism. Alongside photos, she posted, “Even in the down moments, Lord I am grateful. Not the outcome we wanted yesterday, but we will keep believing and give our all in the final group game. Thank you for all your support. It is not unnoticed #RASH #TheGirlWithTheBlueHair #Olympics.”
To qualify for the knockout stages, Nigeria needs to win their final group match against Japan by at least two goals. Japan, who have three points and a zero goal difference, also need to be surpassed on goal difference.
The game between Nigeria and Japan is scheduled for Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes, France. Kickoff is at 4 PM Nigerian time, and the match will be broadcast on Supersport.
