‘Instrumental Lookman’ – Atalanta Manager praises Nigerian forward
Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini has commended Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman for his key role in the team’s success in the last year.
Atalanta ended last season on a high by winning the UEFA Europa League, with Lookman making history by scoring a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen.
This season, the 27-year-old has maintained his excellent form, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 15 matches across all competitions.
Speaking to reporters, Gasperini highlighted how last season’s Europa League triumph boosted the team’s confidence.
“We are in great form in Italy and Europe,” Gasperini said. “Winning the Europa League last season helped us grow in confidence and self-belief. Players like Lookman were instrumental in that success and have set the tone for the team.”
Lookman’s 2024 has been outstanding for both club and country. He shone at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the Super Eagles and played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s European victory.
His performances have earned him nominations for the prestigious Ballon d’Or and CAF Player of the Year awards. Lookman is considered the favourite to win the African award, following in the footsteps of his compatriot Victor Osimhen, who claimed the title last year.
The Nigerian star’s contributions continue to make a significant impact as Atalanta enjoys a strong run in both domestic and European competitions.
