Inter Milan Begin Contract Talks with Nigerian Midfielder Tipped as Ndidi’s Successor
Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan have opened contract renewal talks with Nigerian youngster Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, according to reports from FCInter1908.
Akinsanmiro, who joined the Nerazzurri from Remo Stars in January 2023, is currently tied to the club until 2026. However, Inter are keen to secure his long-term future, recognising his development and growing reputation.
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Serie B side Sampdoria, where he featured regularly despite the club’s relegation. Akinsanmiro made 35 appearances, scored once, and provided one assist—impressing with his consistency and work ethic.
“He’s doing very well,” said his agent Cescenzo Cecere, speaking to Tuttomercatoweb. “The team struggled early on, but with Andrea Sottil’s arrival, they improved. Inter are monitoring him closely, and we hope he’ll soon be ready for their first team.”
Akinsanmiro’s performances have drawn comparisons to Wilfred Ndidi, with many in Nigerian football circles viewing him as a potential long-term replacement for the Leicester City midfielder in the Super Eagles setup. As Nigeria looks to rejuvenate its midfield, the Inter youngster is widely considered one of the brightest prospects on the horizon.
Inter Milan, aware of growing interest from other clubs, are eager to retain Akinsanmiro’s services and could offer a new deal as early as this summer. A decision on his future—whether to remain at San Siro or go out on another loan, possibly to a Serie A side—will be made after pre-season assessments.
If the contract extension is finalised, Akinsanmiro could be set for a breakthrough campaign as he pushes for more first-team opportunities under manager Simone Inzaghi.
