Inter Milan Stage Late Comeback to Reach Champions League Final
Inter Milan are through to the Champions League final after a dramatic 7-6 win on aggregate over Barcelona in what will be remembered as one of the greatest semi-final clashes in the competition’s history.
With just two minutes of stoppage time left, Inter were losing 3-2 on the night and looked set to crash out. But 37-year-old defender Francesco Acerbi smashed in a powerful shot to level the tie.
Moments later, substitute Davide Frattesi curled in a stunning left-footed strike early in extra time to send Inter into the final.
It was an extraordinary two-legged contest full of drama and goals — 13 in total — as both teams battled fiercely for a place in the final.
Barcelona had come from 2-0 down, just like in the first leg, to lead 3-2 and were only minutes away from reaching their first final in ten years.
Teenager Lamine Yamal came close to forcing penalties, but Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer made two brilliant saves to deny him and secure the victory.
Inter, who were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City in the 2023 final, will now face either Paris Saint-Germain or Arsenal in this year’s final at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena on Saturday, 31 May.
Arsenal head to France for the second leg on Wednesday, trailing 1-0 after last week’s defeat at the Emirates Stadium.
