‘It was a battle’, coach Kenneth Heiner-Moeller reacts after leading Canada past Nigeria

Canada headcoach Kenneth Heiner-Moeller has reacted to his sides 2-1 comeback win in an international friendly against Nigeria’s Super Falcons in Spain on Monday.

Desire Oparanozie scored the first goal of the match with her 26th minute strike before Backie Janine and Schmidt scored in the 48 and 53 minutes to fire Canada past Nigeria.

Reacting to the outcome after the game Kenneth Heiner-Moeller revealed that the clash was what his team who are unbeaten in their last six games needed.

“It definitely was a battle. They gave us some physical challenges but I think we stood up to it,” said Canada coach Kenneth Heiner-Moeller.

Kenneth Heiner-Moeller explained how his side was able to overcome the deficit to get the result they needed.

“The most important thing was we showed composure, after going 1-0 down, it’s about keeping our structures right and keeping our composure.

“The second half was about us having more players in the penalty area and we definitely became more dangerous.”
