ITTF Africa Championship: Mati Taiwo turns heads, through to semifinals

Nigerian sensation and Africa’s U-19 champion Mati Taiwo has continued to make waves at the ongoing ITTF Africa Championship in Algeria. The teenager qualified for the semifinals of the tournament.

Taiwo, who recently earned a host of accolades for his performances at the African U-19 Championship, defeated Egyptian star Ahmed Saleh in the quarterfinals to book his place in the semifinals of the tournament in Algeria.

Mati Taiwo is one of only three Nigerian players at the ongoing ITTF Africa Senior Championship alongside the experienced duo of Aruna Quadri and Olajide Omotayo, both of whom featured in the Commonwealth Games. The youngster will look to secure a place in the finals for the first time in his fledgling career when he faces Africa’s top-ranked player Aruna Quadri later today.
