ITTF World Cup: Quadri, Assar to face world number 7 and 1 in the round of 16
Africa number one and two who are africa’s representatives at the 2017 ITTF World Cup, will face difficult opponents in the next round of the competition.
Having fought their way into the knockout stages winning a game and losing one each to qualify from their groups,they will face the world number one and seven in the round of 16.
Aruna Quadri will battle world number 7 Japan’s MIZUTANI Jun while Omar Assar will battle Olympic, world champions and tournament favourite Ma Long in the round of 16.
Aruna Quadri lost his first game in 7 set (11-8, 1-11, 7-11, 5-11, 11-5, 11-4, 12-10) to Korea’s Lee Sangsu before beating America’s Kanak JHA in 6 set (7-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-5) to advance to the round of 16.
Omar Assar started brightly beating Belgium’s Cedri Nuytinck (9-11, 10-12, 11-8, 9-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-8) before losing to Russia’s Alexander SHIBAEV (8-11, 9-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-13, 11-7, 11-7) to make it to the round of 16.
