Iva Jovic defends Guadalajara Title without dropping a Set
Iva Jovic is a champion in Guadalajara once again. The 18-year-old American defeated fellow countrywoman Peyton Stearns 6-4, 6-2 in the final to successfully defend her title.
Jovic became the first player to win the Guadalajara Open twice, completing her title defence without dropping a set all week. It is her second career WTA title, both of them won in Guadalajara.
Stearns, who was playing in her second final of the season, congratulated Jovic after the match and thanked the Guadalajara crowd for their support.
“Firstly I wanna congratulate Iva on an amazing week. Clearly you love Guadalajara and Guadalajara loves you. Hopefully you keep coming back here.”
She also reflected on her own tournament:
“Great week for me too. Super proud of myself. Thanks to my coach David for coming out. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. It’s such an incredible tournament. The turnout for this event is amazing. Hopefully see you guys next year.”
Jovic’s back-to-back titles mark a special milestone for the teenager, who first won the tournament at 17 last year.
