Iwobi in action as Everton suffer 0-3 Man City loss

Nigerian Midfielder Alex Iwobi was in action as Everton suffered a 0-3 loss to Manchester City on Sunday May 14, 2023.

Taking the points at Goodison Park was important for both teams for different reasons. For Everton, it was another day to battle for points to guarantee top-flight safety while Manchester City wanted the win to keep hold on top spot in the title race.

Sean Dyche set up the Toffees to sit back and catch City in the counter, a plan they executed perfectly until the 37th minute when IIKay Gundogan fired the Citizens in front.

Norwegian forward Erling Haaland scored his 36th Premier League goal of the season to double the lead in the 39th minute to send Alex Iwobi and his teammates down the tunnel trailing 0-2.

Gundogan scored from a well taken free-kick for 0-3 in the 51st minute.

Everton had a chance to pull one back in the 65th minute, but James Tarkowski’s header hit the woodwork.  It finished Everton 0-3 Manchester City, Pep Guardiola`s men walking away with three precious points in their race for the title.

As it stands, Manchester City sit top of the English Premier League table, four points ahead of second-placed Arsenal, who face Brighton & Hove Albion later at the Emirates.

Manchester City have three games to play against Chelsea, Brighton and Brentford in their bid to win their ninth Premier League trophy.

For Alex Iwobi and Everton, the defeat means they sit just one point above the relegation zone with32 points from 36 matches.

Alex Iwobi has been a consistent figure at the club this season and has raked in 35 appearances for the Merseyside outfit.
