Everton star Alex Iwobi picked up a serious-looking injury as Everton lost 3-1 to Manchester United in their FA Cup Third Round clash at Old Trafford. The Red Devils made it eight wins on the spin to progress to the Fourth Round of the oldest cup competition in club football.
Coming into the game in excellent form with seven straight wins, Manchester United sought to progress in the FA Cup against Everton and their under-pressure manager Frank Lampard.
The Red Devils wasted no time to go in front in the game as Brazilian winger Antony took advantage of early lax defending from the Everton backline to sweep home a low cross from Marcus Rashford after only four minutes.
Everton kept a level head in the clash despite the early setback and were rewarded with an equaliser ten minutes later. A near-post shot from Neal Maupay was stuck between the legs of David De Gea, allowing Conor Coady to nip in and fire home from close range to level matters.
The Toffees held on despite scares from Anthony Martial and Christian Eriksen, and were able to head into the break level.
Manchester United scored early in the second half, with Coady sticking the ball into his own net after brilliant dribbling and a low cross from Rashford in the 52nd minute.
Iwobi was substituted in tears after being on the receiving end of a rough tackle from Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia, with the Nigerian midfielder emerging worse off from the challenge. He was replaced by Abdoulaye Doucoure in midfield and Malacia escaped without a booking.
Everton thought they had equalised after a cross from the lively Demarai Gray was chested into the net by Dominic Calvert-Lewin, only for the goal to be ruled out after a VAR check for an offside in the build-up.
Manchester United rounded off the scoring in the final minute of added time as Rashford scored for the fifth game in a row. The England international fired home from the penalty spot after Alejandro Garnacho had been bundled off the ball in the box by Ben Godfrey.
