Jakub Mensik Reaches Miami Open Semi-Finals

Jakub Mensik showed great confidence as he reached a new milestone at the Miami Open on Thursday, March 27, 2025.

The 19-year-old Czech defeated Arthur Fils 7-6(5), 6-1 in the quarter-finals at Hard Rock Stadium. With this win, Mensik has advanced to the semi-finals of an ATP Masters 1000 event for the first time in his career.

“It feels incredible. This is the biggest result of my career so far,” Mensik said. “The key is to stay focused throughout the tournament because it is always tough. The job is not done yet.”

The match was the youngest Masters 1000 quarter-final since Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune met at the 2022 Rolex Paris Masters. Mensik took advantage of a tired Fils, who had played long matches against Frances Tiafoe and Alexander Zverev in earlier rounds. The Frenchman could not produce the same level of play this time.

Mensik lost an early 4-1 lead in the first set and faced two break points at 5-5, but he recovered well to win the tie-break. He then dominated the second set, finishing the match in 75 minutes with 26 winners, including 13 aces.

The Czech teenager is now the first player from his country to reach the Miami Open semi-finals since Tomas Berdych in 2015. He will play either Taylor Fritz or Matteo Berrettini in the last four.

Mensik’s impressive run in Miami has moved him 20 places up to No. 34 in the ATP rankings. He has also taken the lead in the ATP Live Race to Jeddah, aiming for a second straight appearance at the Next Gen ATP Finals.

“I set goals before every season, and my team has been working very hard to help me improve,” Mensik said. “After good weeks and bad weeks, we keep pushing, and now it is paying off.”
