Jannik Sinner withdraws from Cincinnati with Right Knee Injury

Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open due to a right knee injury, with the US Open now just weeks away.

The world No. 1 had already pulled out of the Canadian Open in Montreal on July 24, but he did not reveal a specific injury at the time. Sinner said he and his team had decided to prioritise his health after Wimbledon.

“We believe this is the right decision to prioritise my health.”

Now, Sinner has confirmed that his right knee has been bothering him and that he is not ready to compete in Cincinnati.

“My right knee has been bothering me and even though we have been working hard with my medical team, I have to accept that I’m not ready to compete yet.”

It means Sinner will miss both major North American hard-court events ahead of the US Open, which begins on August 30. Carlos Alcaraz has also withdrawn from Cincinnati with his wrist injury, so neither of the world’s top two players will have played in Canada or Cincinnati before New York.

For Sinner, the priority now is to get the knee right and be ready for the US Open.
