Joe Johnson pushes Miami Heat close within a win of division title, Spurs trump Thunder in OT

The Miami Heat are a win away from sealing the Southeast Division title and home-court advantage in the first round of the NBA play-offs after defeating the Detroit Pistons 99-93.

Miami missed the play-offs in 2015 but head into the final day of the regular season within touching distance of the division title and Eastern Conference’s number three seed following back-to-back wins.

The Heat, who share a 48-33 win-loss record with the Atlanta Hawks and are a game clear of Wednesday’s opponents the Boston Celtics, were led by Joe Johnson’s 25 points.

Dwyane Wade (14 points) made his slowest start since March 2006, after failing to score until there was just over four minutes remaining in the first half.

The San Antonio Spurs prevailed 102-98 against the Oklahoma City Thunder in overtime.

Kawhi Leonard posted 26 points as the Spurs rallied to finish 40-1 at home this season, matching the Celtics’ 1985-86 record.

The Thunder, who rested Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka in their regular-season finale, were led by 17-point games from Steven Adams, Dion Waiters, Cameron Payne and Enes Kanter.

Also on Tuesday, the Los Angeles Clippers extended their winning streak to six games courtesy of a 110-84 victory at home to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The slumping Grizzlies dropped down to seventh in the Western Conference – alongside the Dallas Mavericks – after losing for the ninth time in 10 games.

Paul George guided the Indiana Pacers past the New York Knicks 102-90, while the Toronto Raptors were too good for the lowly Philadelphia 76ers 122-98.
