Joel Embiid Commits to USA over Cameroon, and France
He Picked Team USA for International Play, Pledges to Honor His Son
Philadelphia Sixers center, Joel Embiid, has made a significant commitment to his international future, opting to represent the United States of America while turning down opportunities to play for France and Cameroon.
Despite being born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, and being eligible to represent France, the reigning NBA MVP has firmly decided to don the colors of Team USA.
Embiid expressed his sentiments, saying, “I’m truly proud and excited about this decision, though it wasn’t an easy one. I am fortunate to call Cameroon, France, and the USA my homes.”
“After heartfelt discussions with my family, I knew that it had to be Team USA. I want to play alongside my fellow NBA players, I want to compete for my passionate fans who have supported me since my arrival here.”
“But most importantly, I want to honor my son, who was born in the USA. I want my son to know that I played my first Olympics for him.”
Embiid’s decision to represent the US comes after a disappointing performance in the recent FIBA World Cup. His commitment to Team USA will undoubtedly strengthen their chances of securing gold at the 2024 Olympics in France.
