Joel Obi’s Chievo unlucky to lose to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus

Super Eagles midfielder Joel Obi was unlucky to end on the losing side as his club Chievo Verona bowed to a late minute goal to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus in their Italian Serie A opener.

All eyes were on the defending champions, Juventus and current world best player, Cristiano Ronaldo on the day they travel to the Stadio M. A. Bentegodi for their first game of the season.

Quickly, the visitors went in front through Sami Khedira in the 3rd minutes of the game. A corner from Miralem Pjanic found Giorgio Chiellini who nodded the ball to the German who scored from close range.

The home side restored parity in the 38th minutes through Mariusz Stepinski. Emanuele Giaccherini sent in a ball that Mariusz Stepinski nodded home for the equalizer.

Just after the goal, Joel Obi was introduced for the home side in came in in the 78th minute for Perparim Hetemaj to beef up the defence.

It was a frustrating debut for Cristiano Ronaldo who spearheaded the attack for the defending champions as he failed to find the back of the net.

Just when it looked like the champions with a frustrated Cristiano Ronaldo will play a 2-2 draw Federico Bernardeschi popped up to save the day.

The Italian scored the winning goal in the 93rd minutes following a good delivery from Alex Sandro.
