Jose Peseiro set for new coaching job
Former Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, is reportedly going to be unveiled as the new manager of reigning CAF Confederation Cup winners, Zamalek SC of Egypt.
Reports confirm that the Portuguese coach will replace Christian Gross, who recently left the club.
Zamalek officials have reached an agreement with Peseiro, and he is expected to travel to Cairo soon to sign his contract and meet with club leaders.
Amir Azmi Mujahid, the coach of the Zamalek Club, announced the departure of the team’s coach, Christian Gross.
Amir Azmi Mujahid said on Facebook: “Thank you. You will always stay in my mind and my heart because you are a person who helped me a lot and learned a lot from you. Thank you, respectable man.”
On the other hand, Zamalek is preparing to face its Petrojet counterpart next Sunday in the 14th round of the Egyptian Premier League.
Peseiro’s appointment will take him back to Egyptian football, having previously managed Al Ahly in the 2015/16 season. He has a lot of coaching experience, including time with Porto and Venezuela, and his most recent role as head coach of Nigeria’s national team.
He led the Super Eagles to second place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations before his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) ended in February 2024.
It’s also worth remembering that former Nigerian player Emmanuel Amunike played for Zamalek from 1991 to 1994, scoring 26 goals in 71 appearances and winning several titles, including the Egyptian Premier League and the CAF Super Cup.
Peseiro’s arrival is seen as an important step for Zamalek, as the team aims to regain its strength in both domestic and international competitions.
