Joseph Dosu names goalkeeper who should replace Uzoho in goal for Nigeria

Atlanta 1996 Olympics gold medalist, Joseph Dosu has named the goalkeeper who should replace Francis Uzoho in goal for Nigeria. SportsRation reports.

Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has had a rough patch, leading to calls for his replacement by fans, pundits and former footballers who are critical of his confidence amidst raging threats and criticsm.

Uzoho has not kept a clean-sheet in Nigeria’s last four games. in the friendly games vs Saudi Arabia and Mozambique the Omonia Nicosia shot-stopper made errors leading to goals.

and his relationship with the fans got even worse with the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification 1-1 draws vs Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

For Joseph Dosu who was Nigeria’s goalkeeper at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics, Peseiro should consider other options for Uzoho who is not doing well at the moment.

“If Uzoho is not doing well, which can happen to any player, then let the coach look elsewhere and bring in a replacement,” the Atalanta 1996 gold medal-winning goalkeeper told SPORT247.

“I am personally of the opinion that giving Adeleye a chance to prove himself will be the best decision for the coach.”

Adebayo Adeleye missed the last four Super Eagles games with injury but is back in training with Isreali club, Hapoel Jerusalem.

For his  only full International start, Adeleye was trusted in goal for the Super Eagles vs Sierra Leone, a game Nigeria won 3-2 during the successful 2023 AFCON qualification series.

He is expected to make the cut for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast, and if Peseiro heeds the call by Dosu and majority of Nigerian fans, should be handed the starting role ahead of already tested Francis Uzoho and Maduka Okoye.
