Josh Maja Joins Ligue 1 Side Le Havre
Super Eagles striker Josh Maja has completed a move to Ligue 1 club Le Havre after signing as a free agent.
The 27-year-old joins the French side following the expiry of his contract with EFL Championship club West Bromwich Albion at the end of last season.
Maja has signed a two-year contract with Le Havre, with the agreement including the option of an additional year.
The French club moved for the Nigerian after the departure of forward Issa Soumare to fellow Ligue 1 side Rennes, identifying Maja as the ideal player to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season.
The move marks Maja’s return to French football, where he previously enjoyed a successful spell with Bordeaux. During his time at the club, he scored 29 goals in 93 appearances and established himself as one of the league’s reliable forwards.
Overall, the former Sunderland academy graduate has scored 81 goals in 291 appearances across club and international football.
Maja spent the last three years at West Brom, scoring 19 goals in all competitions before leaving at the end of his contract. Despite attracting interest from several English clubs, he opted for a return to France.
Le Havre will hope the Nigerian striker’s experience and goals can help the club build on last season’s successful fight against relegation and secure a stronger finish in the upcoming Ligue 1 campaign.
For Maja, the transfer offers the chance to revive his career in a league where he has previously impressed. The Super Eagles forward will be looking to make an immediate impact when the new French season begins.
