Joshua-Klitscko undercard could feature Parker-Wilder

Anthony Joshua’s super-fight with Wladimir Klitschko could see a heavyweight world title unification fight on its undercard between Joseph Parker and Deontay Wilder.

Joshua demolished Eric Molina inside three rounds in Manchester on Saturday in his second defence of the IBF belt, which he will put on the line at Wembley Stadium against the division’s former ruler at Wembley Stadium in April.

Earlier on Saturday, New Zealander Parker won the WBO belt – vacated by Klitschko’s conqueror Tyson Fury earlier this year – by beating Andy Ruiz in Auckland.

Parker has previously targeted a fight with Joshua, but will now seek to face the winner of Joshua and Klitschko – also set to fight for the vacant WBA strap – if he can overcome WBC champ Wilder.

“My understanding is that if we go to unify, it potentially overrides the mandatory, so that means we have options,” said David Higgins, director of Parker’s promoters, with an obligatory defence against Hughie Fury – cousin of Tyson – a potential stumbling block

“We are not scared of anyone, we’re not going to look to pad or dodge – we want to unify.

“Whether [Joshua’s promoter] Eddie Hearn is willing to have two heavyweight title fights on the one card, we don’t know.

“We could have Wilder-Parker and Joshua-Klitschko on the same card and then the winner of each fight could fight off against each other.

“I guess the other wildcard option is if Tyson Fury sorts himself out and wants a shot back at his belt, because I think the WBO said once he is fit again, he could ask for a shot back. Once again that is something we would look at.”
