Jude Bellingham strikes late as Real Madrid beat Manchester City in the Champions League playoff 1st-leg
Jude Bellingham scored a stoppage-time winner as Real Madrid came from behind twice to beat Manchester City 3-2 in the first leg of their Champions League play-off.
Erling Haaland seemed to have won the game for City with a late penalty, his second goal of the night, putting them ahead again after Kylian Mbappe had equalised with a mis-hit volley. But City fell apart in the final minutes.
Brahim Diaz scored with a first-time shot on the rebound against his old club, and then Bellingham made sure of the win, tapping in after Vinicius Junior had stolen the ball from Rico Lewis and lifted it over City keeper Ederson.
Madrid will feel they deserved the win after creating plenty of chances, but it was a harsh result for Pep Guardiola’s team. They now face a tough task when they meet Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the second leg for a spot in the last 16.
