Jude Bellingham under Investigation for alleged Insult towards Getafe’s Mason Greenwood

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham is facing scrutiny and an investigation by La Liga authorities following allegations that he made a derogatory comment towards Getafe’s Mason Greenwood during their match on Thursday, Febuary 1, 2024.

Getafe and Real Madrid faced off in Spain with the visitors, emerging 0-2 victors.

The reported insult took place after Bellingham tackled Mason Greenwood, and while the specific words exchanged were not captured by audio, television cameras showed a verbal exchange between the two players.

After the match, Getafe officially reported the alleged comment to the La Liga delegate, urging that it be included in the referee’s official match report. The nature of the accusation, if proven true, could have severe consequences for Bellingham, both professionally and personally.

After completing a crunching tackle on the 22-year-old, the camera focused on Bellingham, who some fans believed muttered the word ‘r-pist’ in the direction of the Getafe forward.

Mason Greenwood, 22, is on loan to Getafe from Premier League side, Manchester United FC.

His loan move followed controversies, including an arrest in October 2022 on charges of attempted rape, coercive behavior, and assault, which were later dropped after an internal investigation by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Despite the off-field issues, Greenwood has been productive on the pitch for Getafe, scoring six goals and providing four assists in 21 appearances across all competitions this season.

The investigation by La Liga will determine the validity of Getafe’s claims, and depending on the outcome, disciplinary actions may be taken against Jude Bellingham.
