Women’s round up: Kaduna wins gold, as Plateau and Yobe settle for silver and bronze

Kaduna Women’s hockey confirmed their dominance in Nigeria Hockey circuit with the addition of another golden medal to their collections in their 2018.

Following their victories at the U-15, and National Super League, the girls from Kaduna completed a golden hattrick with the 2018 National festival medal.

Kaduna won all their games except their last game against Yobe to finish with 10 points and at the top of the table.

It was an easy tournament for Baba Ndana-led girls as they romped into the golden position hitch free. They didn’t concede a single goal while scoring a total of 5 goals in their four games, failing only to score in their 0-0 draw to Yobe in their last game.

Plateau who battered Ondo State 3-0 in their last game finished second having amassed a point total of 9 points from four games.

Yobe with 5 points finished in the bronze position while star-studded Delta finished 4th and missed out on the promised 1 million naira cash while Ondo who lost all their games finished bottom of the log.

In the men’s category, it was same story as the Kaduna boys took it all. They beat Oyo in the final via penalty shootout after playing a goalless draw during the regulations time.

It was a tough final that could only have been decided by the shootout. The first round of shootout ended 2-2 and we headed for sudden death, it was during the sudden death that Kaduna won after Yinka missed his attempt for Oyo State.

Delta who trashed Plateau United 2-0 in the third place match took the bronze medal.
