Kai Havertz heads Arsenal past Brentford to EPL top-spot

German International, Kai Havertz scored late-on to see Arsenal past Brentford FC 0-1 and to top-spot in the Premier League after 13 games. SportsRation reports.

Havertz was a second half substitute and made a deep run to connect a teasing cross from the right past the exceptional Brentford FC goalkeeper at the backpost.

In the match, Aaron Ramsdale was in the spotlight as he started in goal for Mikel Arteta’s men.

Ramsdale was taunted by the Brentford fans with every touch and he nearly gifted them the lead in the 14th minute of the match.

Soon afterwards, the goalkeeper made another mistake after his attempt to throw the ball out bounced just yards in front of him and straight to a Brentford player who also failed to shoot on goal.

Arsenal had the ball in the net in the first half but that attempt was ruled out for offside.

Trossard pounced to nod in from close range but the VAR ruled the goal out as the forward was offside from Jesus’ initial header which had been parried into the air by Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken.

Brentford had the better of the second half without creating many clear chances. Maupay’s close-range header was brilliantly kept out by Zinchenko to save the Gunners from defeat.

For the match-winner, Englishman Bukayo Saka cut in from the right and sent a cross to the back post where Havertz’ stooping header crept past Flekken.

That Kai Havertz goal sealed the victory for Arsenal who leapfrog reigning champions, Manchester City to top-spot with 30-points while the Citizens who were held at home 1-1 by third-placed Liverpool FC at the Etihad.
