Kane Helps Bayern Beat Boca and Reach Club World Cup Knockout Stage

England captain Harry Kane played a key role in both goals as Bayern Munich beat Boca Juniors to become the first team to reach the knockout stages of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Kane scored the first goal in the 18th minute, calmly finishing from 10 yards. Boca Juniors equalised in the second half with a lovely goal by Miguel Merentiel.

With just six minutes left, Kane passed the ball to former Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise, who scored the winner with a smooth side-footed shot from the edge of the box.

Bayern Munich now only need a draw in their last group game against Benfica to finish top of the group. If Chelsea finish second in their group, Bayern could face them in the last 16.

Chelsea are currently second after losing 3-1 to Flamengo on Friday.

“Big performance from the team,” said Kane, who was named player of the match. “We knew it would be tough, and the atmosphere was challenging. I’m happy to score and help us qualify. This is a huge tournament with top teams. Our mindset is to focus on ourselves and play at our best. So far, so good.”

One worry for Bayern is an injury to German star Jamal Musiala, who limped off just 25 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute.

The loss for Boca Juniors ended a nine-game unbeaten run for South American clubs in this new-look tournament. However, they still have a slim chance to go through – but only if Benfica lose to Bayern and Boca can make up a seven-goal difference.

In the group’s other match on Friday, Portuguese team Benfica easily beat Auckland City 6-0. The New Zealand side are now out of the tournament, having let in 16 goals in just two games.
