Kano Pillars 3 Enyimba 1: Kabiru Balogun’s brace gives 10-man Sai Masu Gida the maximum points

Former Ikorudu United attacker Kabiru Balogun scored twice as Sai Masu Gida trash The People’s Elephant 3-1 at theĀ at the fully packed Sani Abacha Stadium today.

Going into the tie Kano Pillars were full of confidence having secured an important away point in Sagamu during their mid-week clash with Remo Stars and they made their intention to win the game known from the blast of the whistle.

Although nothing positive came off the end to end play from both teams till Kabiru Balogun’s free-kick was deflected in, making him the firstĀ Kano Pillars player to score a free kick since May 2016 (Rabiu Ali vs Enyimba).

Balogun’s goal was the only thing separating the two teams at the end of the first 45 minutes.

Kabir Balogun doubled Pillars lead and his tally with another fine finish in the 61st minute of the game and when everything seemed to be going in Pillars way former Enyimba captainĀ Chinedu Udoji was dismissed for handling the ball in the box and penalty given to the Peoples’ Elephant.

Chukwude converted the penalty to keep their hopes of getting back into the game alive. With Kano Pillars down to ten men Enyimba continued to push but with the fans behind Pillars, the goal didn’t come for Enyimba.

On 90+3′ Gambo Mohammed raced clear and converted after his initial effort came back off the upright to put the game beyond Enyimba’s reach and gave ten-man Pillars a hard fought 3-1 victory over Ogunbote boys.

The victory means Kano Pillars and Enyimba are tied on points with Pillars occupying the 8th position on the log while Enyimba occupy the 9th position.
