Kenneth Omeruo: Super Eagles have to defeat Lesotho and Zimbabwe

Defender Kenneth Omeruo says the Super Eagles of Nigeria have to defeat Lesotho and Zimbabwe to get their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification journey off to a perfect start.

Omeruo is one the the teams captains and led by example as one of the early birds in camp alongside Jamiu Collins and Sadiq Umar on Monday, November 13.

On arrival, the Kasimpasa defence ace spoke to NFF TV on his targets for the game and the chase for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification.

“We’ve played Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the past but the important thing is to stick to our game plan and take the game very serious because we have to win both games,” Omeruo said in an interview on NFF TV.

“We are looking forward to it, it’s an important one for us, we missed out at the last World Cup so this is a serious matter for us.

“We are here to do what we have to do to get the ticket for the next World Cup.“ he said.

Vastly experinced Kenneth Omeruo will be one of the leading voices in camp as the Eagles gather for the games vs Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Already, hehas represented Nigeria at two World Cups in 2014 and 2018 and is looking forward to a third having missed the 2022 edition in Qatar.

Speaking on the importance of playing at the tournament, especially for the young players in the Super Eagles, Omeruo described the World Cup as ‘ amazing with no other compared to it “.

He added “It was my dream to play in the World Cup, the atmosphere is amazing, there’s no other compared to it. For the young players it’s something they have to witness.

“It is an amazing tournament, it’s amazing to see Nigerians traveling all over the world to see us so I’m looking forward to another World Cup.”

Nigeria will face Lesotho on November 16 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on matchday one of the qualifying series before travelling to take on Zimbabwe on November 19.
