Jovic combined with Vinicius Junior for Real Madrid’s first goal before scoring the second goal with a risky heady.
The win takes Real Madrid’s points to 39 after 16 games.
Second place Sevilla secured a 1-0 win against Villarreal at the Estadio R. Sanchez Pizjuan thanks to Lucas Ocampos first half goal.
Samuel Chukwueze was subbed in in the second half and played for 18 minutes.
Sevilla who have played one game less have 31 points from 15 games.
Last season champions Atletico Madrid suffered a shocking 2-1 loss to Real Mallorca at Estadio Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday.
Atletico who laboured to get their 68th minute goal scored by Matheus Cunha saw their lead wiped off within minutes.
Franco Russo scored in the 80th minute then Real Madrid loanee Takefusa Kubo scored a late winner 17 minutes after coming on.
In another match Xavi Hernandez and his Barcelona boys suffered a 1-0 loss at Camp Nou. Xavi’s former Barcelona teammate Christian Tello assisted the goal scored by Juanmi in the 79th minutes.
The defeat keeps Barcelona on the 7th spot on 23 points from 15 games.
